A Dial Cut Like Crystal

Seiko built its first quartz watch, the Astron, in 1969, and quartz is still the idea behind this dial. The HAB005's light-green surface is deeply embossed with a pressed pattern that catches light like a crystal face, with three-dimensional applied indices and three subdials in a contrasting finish.

Around the dial sits an octagonal titanium bezel with a super-hard coating. The case measures 43.4mm across and 12.4mm thick, a size that feels substantial without being heavy, thanks to the titanium.

Only 1,200 will exist.

Caliber 5X63: Set by Satellite

The 5X63 is a GPS solar chronograph. Press a button and the watch receives signals from GPS satellites, then sets the exact time and time zone for wherever you are. Light of any kind charges it, so there are no battery changes, and a full charge lasts about six months, or about two years in power-save mode.

GPS time and time zoneReceives satellite signals to set the time and the zone automatically.
Solar poweredCharges from light, no battery changes.
Dual timeA 24-hour dual-time indicator with a time-transfer function that swaps main and dual time at the press of a button.
Perpetual calendarDay and date are correct through February 2100.
1/20-second chronographMeasures up to 24 hours.
Travel modesDaylight saving, in-flight and power-save functions, plus signal-reception indicators.

Titanium Bracelet and a Second Strap

The titanium bracelet has a super-hard coating and a tri-fold push-button clasp with an easy-adjust function. In the box you also get a black silicone strap, so you can switch between a dressier steel-and-titanium look and a sportier one. LumiBrite on the hands and indices keeps it legible after dark, and the screw-down caseback carries the individual serial number.

Care and Final Thoughts

Keep it in the light: sunlight or bright indoor light keeps the solar cell topped up, and the watch will warn you when it is low. For the best GPS reception, take it outdoors with a clear view of the sky. Wipe the titanium with a soft cloth and have it serviced at an authorized service centre.

The HAB005 is a travel watch and a collector's piece in one: precise, light and battery-free, with a dial you will not see on many wrists. With only 1,200 made and limited stock at Lexor Miami, it will not stay on the shelf for long.
